35 before 35 – April 25, 2019 – Update 7

35 before 35 list

Previous Updates

1. 46/105 new recipes

39. Veggie Chile Rellanos with Avocado Salsa and Zesty Crema (Hello Fresh) – This was super good.
40. Roasted Broccoli and Potato Chowder with Pepper Jack Cheese and Garlic Toast (Hello Fresh) – This was good, maybe the best soup like this I’ve ever had, but the toast was boring.
41. Smoky BBQ Veggie Burgers (The Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking by Dana Shultz) – These were super good. A little crumbly but still extremely good. The ones that had fallen apart were extremely good the next day all crumbly in a sort of burrito bowl.
42. Miso Soup – I just looked at some general ingredients and threw this one together. But I’m still counting it because I had never made it before! :D
43. Bok Choy Namul (https://www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-recipe/bok-choy-namul-korean-bok-choy/) – Oh I loved this A LOT. So simple and delicious.
44. Dobu Jorim (https://www.abeautifulplate.com/traditional-korean-braised-tofu/) – I used this specific recipe because this wasn’t something I specifically SHOPPED for and I had everything for this particular one. It was fine but I would like to try some others!
45. Katsu Curry Sandwiches – I wasn’t going to include this because it’s just me putting a bunch of pre-packaged stuff together. The Gardein veggie-turkey cutlets reminded me of chicken katsu sandwiches so I made some Golden Curry sauce and got some sweet Hawaiian buns and it was really tasty. Steamed some broccoli and made frozen steak fries to go with it. I want to remember that I made this and it made me pretty happy so I’m putting it in my 35 before 35, so there!
46. Tofu Curry with Mustard Greens (Afro-Vegan) – This was outrageously good. I love greens so much. I burned the tofu (first time in almost a decade!) so I used some pre-packed seitan in its place. I can’t wait to remake it properly!

3. A Weekly Effort

4. Saturday Night Movies

20. Ocean’s 8
21. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

7. Keep my Patreon up to date!

https://www.patreon.com/rachelakelso

I’m feeling pretty good about what I have been working on lately, and I’m enjoying seeing it all put together on Patreon.

13. Play more Video Games

games001

I have played lots of Breath of The Wild, but even though there is a camera function in the game there’s no good way to share the pictures. OUTRAGEOUS. Anyway, I started a new Stardew Valley farm and I’m using the super cute guidebook and I’m enjoying it a lot. I’m feeling like playing some sims and revisiting some Bioware games right now, though, the nostalgia is so strong and comforting. I just installed Dragon Age Origins on my laptop, so that’s exciting.

17. Monthly Date Night

date001

Had a nice one last Friday night, things are pretty busy and hectic right now but it’s always nice to sit down for some curry together.

18. Work on the House/Yard

I got a new toilet seat and replaced the fill valve in our toilet! I’ve also been working on the yard a lot the past few weeks.

20. Yoga Goals

I’m definitely doing less than I want to be doing right now. My shoulders have been acting sketchy and I’ve been being very careful, as well as being super active in other ways lately.

Five Months into 30 before 30

30 before 30

1. Cook 30 new recipes before 30. 41/30 I made 3 new recipes this month!
Perfect Vegan Gingerbread Cookies Pureed Split-Pea and Rutabaga Soup One-pot Cheesy Mac
39. Perfect Vegan Gingerbread Cookies (from here)
40. Pureed Split-Pea & Rutabaga Soup (from Isa Does It)
41. One-pot Cheesy Mac (from One-dish Vegan)

2. Shoot 1 roll of film per month. 5/12

This month I shot a 36 exposure roll in the Canon Rebel 2000 with a lensbaby lens attached. Really excited to see the results! It’s much harder to shoot 36 exposures than 24 and I wasn’t going to photograph random stuff just to finish out the roll so I’m shooting to finish on the 31st instead of the 25th. (I usually give myself end of the month wiggle-room on this one, anyway. Most things here I track 25th-25th because the project starts and finishes on August 25th.)

10.  Fill my first Smash journal. There are probably 8 blank pages left, but it’s SO stuffed with things now it’s hard to cram anything else in. I’m only putting scraps from 2014 and prior into it at this point.  As I clean and tidy the house and find little saved slips of paper and mementos I’ll smash them in. I started a new Smash journal to be my 2015 scrapbook. The 2015 book will be more organized and linear. After that I expect I’ll switch to Project Life or whatever the newest thing is.

One-Hundred & Fifty-Two
Another thing I plan on doing soon is scrapbooking some of this stuff from my bulletin board.

21.  Start a 365 photo set on my 29th birthday. Finish it! Since I finished my 365 self portrait set I feel like I’m not posting photos here often enough. Obviously I started this project in August. Here’s the set so far: [link]

Here are some of my favorite shots from this project in the past month:

24. Scan my mom’s family photos. My mom’s birthday was on the 20th, so I scanned a few more that day for her. I try to just scan some here and there, because it’s pretty exhausting to sit down and do large batches. I’m not cleaning or straightening them up, much. The priority is to get them backed up a couple of places so that the physical copies aren’t the only ones in existence.

2. Shoot 1 roll of film per month. 2/12
My roll this month was 35mm in the Kodak Cameo. Love this little camera, I had one when I was a teenager and I was lucky enough to find another at Goodwill a few years back. Film development hasn’t been as easy as I had hoped because of my anxiety. I have been writing down the camera/film/month combo so I think it will be easy for me to keep them sorted when I DO get them developed. I might wait until I have a few rolls since we have to go into the city for it.

3.  Write 9th NaNoWriMo novel.
Participant-2014-Web-Banner

I went back and added synopses, excerpts, and covers for all my past NaNoWriMo novels while waiting for the site to relaunch.

After the site launch I “created” my novel: Pleasing the Stranger. I used a random title generator. I’m going to randomly generate a lot of stuff for it, use lots of @nanowordsprints prompts and random suggestions and prompts from my friends. I still need the skeleton of a plot, I guess, but I’m not worried. Yet. Anyway! Let’s be buddies?cover3

6. Finish afghan.

I just have to weave in the ends!!
