35 before 35 – March 25, 2019 – Update 6

35 before 35 list

Previous Updates

1. 38/105 new recipes

31. Tofu Chorizo I googled tofu chorizo and combined and adapted 3 recipes to make some yummy taco filling.
32. Spicy Roasted Paprika Chickpeas with Mac-n-Trees Made this one up and it was really too fancy not to include. I used a daiya cheese for the mac.
33 & 34. Balsamic Dressing and Honey Mustard Dressing I forgot to buy dressing when we were having guests so I made some myself and it was way better than store bought. Balsamic: https://barefeetinthekitchen.com/best-balsamic-vinaigrette/ Honey Mustard: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/honey-mustard-dressing-recipe-2011614
35. Cheezy-Rice Mexican Casserole – Made this one up and it was a delight. Rice and veggies and beans and daiya. Topped with crumbly chile-lime chips. A little too salty, but a good start.
36. Thai Baked Sweet Potatoes (The Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking by Dana Shultz) – I made these with the next recipe & rice noodles for guests with a bit of an adapted version of the tahini sauce because it wasn’t quite to my taste. It was really seriously delicious.
37. Thai Quinoa Meatballs (The Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking by Dana Shultz) – Yeah, this whole dinner was super good. I hate rolling up doughy balls but they’re always so tasty, it’s worth it. Since these are gluten-free they aren’t heavy at all, which is probably the worst thing about most vegan meatball recipes.
38. Mediterranean Baked Veggies with Couscous, Almonds, and Feta (Hello Fresh) – I’m still mad about how much I enjoy everything we make from Hello Fresh. It’s great. >:(

2. Bullet Journal 2019

bulletjournal002bulletjournal001

I really enjoyed setting up the first few weeks of March but I took Spring Break off (even though it was a busy week full of things I probably should have written in my bullet journal, OH WELL.)  Trying to use my stickers more!!

3. A Weekly Effort

I definitely put in more effort every single day than I did before I started this (the real goal!) but I never remember to take selfies, SHRUG. Look, I even wore MAKEUP last week.

4. Saturday Night Movies

movie001

I got hit by my movie anxiety (basically I just wanted to comfort watch Parks and Rec, and we did, we rewatched the whole series in the past month or so) and we only had one movie night this month, but it was a super good one. I loved this movie a lot.

19. The Shape of Water

5. Finish 5 TV shows

I guess re-watching Parks and Rec doesn’t count. :D We started the second season of Legion last weekend and I think it’s one of my favorite shows ever. Wild. I did some sorting in my TV Time account and I’m feeling like really getting into watching TV again. Oh and the first five seasons of Murder She Wrote are going to be on Prime April 1st? I mean, I was on Season 10 when it left Netflix, but I’m very pumped to do household chores while JB solves crimes.

7. Keep my Patreon up to date!

https://www.patreon.com/rachelakelso

I got all of my February posts up in the first week. I’ll have more to share next month, for sure!

8. Keep my website updated

I added several photo sets this month! Fuji Instax Wide 001, Winter 001, Self 002, and Kodak Cameo Motor-EX 001.  I added a day from last August to my day in the life page.

13. Play more Video Games

I’m well aware that this is just too much but I didn’t put very many game pictures in my update last month so I over-compensated! I played a bunch of Final Fantasy IX (COMFORTING), Kingdom Hearts III (Sora selfies!!), one play through of Dream Daddy (got with the coffee dad, mmm), so much Sailor Moon Drops on my phone before it ends (I am SO SAD), a little Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition on my iPad, a little Hue (until it got TOO HARD, platformer puzzle games, my dudes) and started Breath of the Wild (oh no, it’s so fun!)

So have a gallery of THAT:

Yay!

17. Monthly Date Night

date001

Yeah, we chutneyed.

20. Yoga Goals

I didn’t do as much as I wanted to, but I found a good routine at the beginning of the month. I’m working on other things a lot more than I was a few months ago and I’m more active because of it, but it makes it harder to do yoga!

52 no. 4

I started another 52 weeks set with Shaun a bit over a month ago. I’ve actually missed a week or two, but I’m not fussed. Here are the first 5 shots:

1. Ohoho! Love the lighting!
1. Ohoho! Love the lighting! – Prompto, Final Fantasy XV
This was just a moment where the light was really interesting, coming in through the front door and I thought, aha, it’s time to start this new set I’ve been wanting to do.
2. I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it's very difficult to find anyone. 2. I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
On the airplane flying to visit our bestest friends in Seattle.

3. Be so very light. Be a gentle whisper. 3. Be so very light. Be a gentle whisper. – Bob Ross
When we got back, we both had terrible colds. Consequently I missed taking a photo the next week.

4. well, I've been afraid of changing cos I've built my life around you 4. well, I’ve been afraid of changing cos I’ve built my life around you.Landslide, Fleetwood Mac
We went for a walk. It was almost a little too cold, but actually perfect. We saw a bunch of cats, and cast long shadows as we turned towards home. I missed another week after this because I spent the whole week finally getting back on top of things around the house after having been on vacation and then ill.

We went to the Persian Cultural Festival at the University of Tulsa. Lovely art and history, music and company.

2015 Projects – stuff that isn’t part of my 30 before 30

1. Shoot more video. Now that my computer is working well, video editing is feasible. I didn’t shoot much when it was hard to edit and I’m kinda sad about that. Shaun is shooting lots of video so far this year as well, which is super exciting. An aside to this is that I’ve been enjoying going through older video I have shot. The footage above is from our 2012 trip to the Oklahoma Aquarium.

Day 51: Tidied the cupboards. #100happydays Day 53: Got a box for all of our Tylenol and cold medicine that was piled on top of the fridge. #100happydays
2. Extreme organization! Sure this falls under a few of the things (4. Hardcore cull my wardrobe, 20. Get everything boxed and bagged to donate, 25. Organize all the closets, 28. Write a list of major cleaning projects and do them all!) I have on my 30 before 30 list, but I feel like certain things just don’t work into those updates. Though I guess they would if I got around to making that list of major cleaning projects. I should do that this week! Anyway, prior to getting that list written:

  • I cleaned off the top of the fridge and tucked all of our first aid/vitamin stuff into a cute box.
  • I went through all the kitchen cabinets and sorted our appliances. I have a few to get rid of and organized what we actually use to be easily accessible.
  • I started organizing the pantry. That’s definitely a project that involves more dry good storage containers and cute labels than I currently own.

3. Update this blog… weekly? This feels awfully ambitious.

St Louis, 2009
Shaun, Missouri Botanical Garden, 2009 Kodak Cameo 35mm

4. Scanning negatives. All of my plans for timely film development ultimately fail. As such, when I finally get film developed it costs upwards of $50 for processing only (I never get prints.) and then it takes me months & months to actually scan all of it. I got a dozen rolls developed last summer and I’ve scanned… maybe half of them. Honestly I just have so many little creative projects going on, I’m only working on a few of them at a time and it’s hard to find the time for every little thing I want to do, especially for these things that don’t fit into my 30 before 30, if I’m going to be scanning, it should be my mom’s photos for that project. It’s fun to spread it out, though, it’s interesting to see photos I took 6 years ago for the very first time.

5. Read 30 books. Last year my goal on goodreads was 25 and I skated in with 26. I miss reading. I miss sitting on the porch waiting for Shaun to get home from work with my feet up on the rail and a book in my lap. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the bath with a book too. I used to freak out that people did that, but I’m pretty careful and there have been no mishaps thus far! I’m less caught up in keeping things for best, I guess, so the pages get a little steamy, it’s okay. I still wouldn’t do it with a borrowed book, though!
